This burn involved using good fire to help rejuvenate fire-dependent aspen ecosystems in this area. It also helps reduce the risk of bad catastrophic wildfire, improve overall forest health, enhance wildlife and rangeland habitats, and provide additional forage for a variety of animals that use the area.

This project could also not be completed without help from the Dixie National Forest, Manti-La Sal National Forest, and the West Desert and Green River Districts of the Bureau of Land Management.
South Monroe RX Fire 10/9/23 Update
Fire managers plan to finish burning the remaining 600 acres tomorrow (10/10/23). This will then allow a few days for the fire to subside and the smoke to clear before the upcoming eclipse.

The primary goal of this burn is to apply good fire to the fire-dependent aspen ecosystems in this area. Without fire, the aspen stands in this area will eventually die. This burn will also reduce the risk of bad catastrophic wildfire, improve overall forest health, enhance wildlife and rangeland habitats, and provide additional forage for a variety of animals that use the area.
