Cooperating Agencies: Bureau of Land Management Utah, State of Utah Department of Natural Resources – Division of Fire, Forestry and State Lands, Zion National Park, USDA Forest Service, Washington County Sheriff’s Office and several local fire and law enforcement agencies.
Current Situation: The Color Country Incident Management Team 2 successfully and smoothly took command of the fire at noon.
Cedar City Hot Shots installed direct line on the northwest corner of the fire, which is covered in pinyon juniper. Engine crews secured the northeast and south flanks, containing the fire within last night’s footprint. The Logan Hot Shot crew arrived this afternoon along with other resources. We anticipate receiving additional resources over the next operational period, which will include Slide Mountain Type 2 Initial Attack crew.
Aerial resources were able to better map the fire’s perimeter today. The estimated size of the fire now stands at 350 acres. We will continue to ground truth the fire for more accurate sizing.
Tonight, firefighters will continue to work on securing the fire’s edge in order to prepare for the fire weather watch this weekend.
Evacuations: An evacuation order remains in place for a nearby “tiny homes” site and three private residents. Approximately, 30 individuals total were evacuated. However, we anticipate a possible full reopening as early as tomorrow morning.
