Legal Description: Township 31 South, Range 5 East, Sections 23, 24, 25, 26.
Lat/Long: N 38 x 5’ x 45.7”; W 111 x 19’ x 19.6”
Project Description: Fremont River Ranger District, Fishlake National Forest, will continue to treat approximately 250 acres of Ponderosa Pine utilizing prescribed fire.
The overlying objective of the project is to reinitiate the role of fire in this ecosystem. Other objectives are to reduce fuel loadings to a condition that represents a frequent fire regime, and to reduce the fire risk associated with traffic along highway 12 and the Oak Creek Road, that could result in stand replacement fires.
Fuel loadings within the area are mainly natural, there has been some selective logging and thinning activities in the past 4 to 20 years on approximately 20% of the area, leaving small amounts of slash throughout the area. Reducing the slash will result in lower fire line intensities and flame lengths if a wildfire were to occur in the area. This would better provide for firefighter and public safety.
