Planned Actions: Horse Hollow Prescribed Fire objectives and purpose is to reduce hazardous fuels to change fire behavior conditions near the community of Fillmore. A reduction in fuels would reduce the risk of uncharacteristically intense and severe wildfire and secondary effects, such as flooding, to the community and the environment, while improving conditions for the firefighter and public safety. This treatment will also have secondary impacts that may improve the area for wildlife and livestock.
Prescribed fire treatments will be implemented utilizing hand ignition techniques targeting pinion, juniper, oak, and some mixed conifer with mosaic burn patterns and mixed burn severities as an objective. Approximately 40-80% of vegetation will be burned in a mosaic pattern to create a diversity of structural vegetative stages, age classes and species composition.
Project Description: The project is located approximately 2-3 miles southeast of the community of Fillmore, Utah. This prescribed fire plan encompasses approx. 2,600 acres with roughly 1,800 acres already completed. The treatment planned for the upcoming weeks consists of approximately 800 acres of prescribed fire on the Forest Service administered lands.
