Location: Clear Creek drainage of Last Chance, approximately 6 miles south of Ivie Creek Rest Area on Interstate 70, and west of Highway 72

Planned Actions: The Fremont River Ranger District, Fishlake National Forest, plans to implement prescribed fire in Last Chance and Porcupine in the coming days. The project consists of two units in the Last Chance area totaling 3,915 acres and three units in West Tidwell, Porcupine, and UT areas, totaling 9,292 acres. Implementation of the projects will be on going over the next 5-6 years.
Implementation will begin in Unit 2 of Last Chance, for a total of 300-500 acres, targeting isolated mixed conifer stands. Ignitions are contingent on smoke clearances and desirable weather conditions.
Resource Objectives: To reduce hazardous fuel accumulations on Forest Service Lands within the Last Chance/Porcupine Project area. Restore ecosystems to properly functioning conditions in terms of species composition, structure, and function. Reduce the risk to life, property, and natural resources. Promote the regeneration and recruitment of aspen communities and create a mosaic burn pattern with a variety of fire severities.
