Start Date: July 2, 2021
Location: Millard County, 6 miles southeast of Kanosh
Lat x Long Coordinates: 38 45.28 x 112 20.92
Jurisdiction: Fishlake National Forest, Fillmore Ranger District
Fire Size: 170 acres
Cause: Lightning
Fire Behavior: Smoldering with some tree torching, testing retardant lines on the fire perimeter.
Closures: Kanosh Canyon Road is temporarily closed. Managers will re-evaluate this closure tomorrow at 4:00 p.m.
Percent Contained: 30%
Fuels: Timber with grass understory
Fire Crews/Resources: Air support, engines, smokejumpers, crews, and miscellaneous support resources.
Evacuations: Due to safety concerns, campers in the Adelaide Campground and surrounding dispersed sites were asked to leave yesterday. While down slope winds traditionally occur over night, campers and visitors will not be able to re-enter the canyon until possibly tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. This decision has been made for public safety and allows firefighters one more shift to secure the fire perimeter.
Summary: With the help from aircraft, several buckets of water helped cool down hot spots, as crews worked the ground to reinforce yesterday’s retardant lines around the fire perimeter. Minimal smoke remains visible. Crews will continue to work the fire area with expected improvement on containment tomorrow.
