Current Status: Great Basin Team 3 assumed command of the fire this morning, the Type 2 team is also managing the William Fire to the south near Santaquin. Yesterday, crews experienced minimal fire activity and worked to establish control lines around the perimeter where access allowed.
Whiting Campground remains closed. We ask that the public stay away from the fire area for the safety of the firefighters and the public.
Today, firefighters will continue to extinguish hot spots, strengthen existing fireline and work to establish containment. The northeast flank of the fire is difficult to access because of steep and rugged terrain; fire managers are strategizing the safest way to insert crews into the area.
Fire behavior is expected to be minimal today with isolated smoke visible. Rain showers are possible with light winds.
A TFR (Temporary Flight Restriction) has been implemented over the fire area – which means recreational drones and private aircraft cannot fly over the fire. The TFR can be found here: https://tfr.faa.gov/save_pages/detail_0_6165.html. Please remember, if you fly, we can’t.
