Upper Provo Wildfire August 2, 2020 Update

Start: July 31, 2020

Location: 22 miles east of Kamas Utah in the Murdock Basin area

Cause: Human Caused – under investigation

Size: 336 acres

Containment: 5%

Fuels: Mixed conifer and lodge pole pine

Closures: Murdock Basin road (Forest Service road #137) and Broadhead Meadows road (Forest Service road #416) are closed and the area around Murdock Basin and Broadhead Meadows.

*Mirror Lake Highway is open*

Assigned Resources:

  • 2 Helicopters
  • 5 Engines
  • 2 Squads
  • 3 Hand Crews
  • 135 total personnel

The fire had moderate activity yesterday, but firefighters were able to establish an anchor point and build containment lines on the east and west edges of the fire. A hose lay was inserted along the fireline to help with mop up activities. Helicopters provided air support to crews on the ground putting out hot spots.

The decrease in acres is due to more accurate mapping of the fire. For public and firefighter safety, the Murdock Basin area remains closed.
