Cottonwood Trail Fire – 7/20/20

Summary: The fast-moving Cottonwood Trail fire started near mile marker 17 of I-15. Harrisburg Area, Angel Heights sub-division (west side of Leeds) have been allowed to return home after being evacuated. Aggressive suppression efforts from both aerial and ground resources protected the surrounding communities near the fire area. Fire managers are maintaining the control line with crews and aerial resources to keep the fire within the burned footprint. 

Start Date: 7/19/20

Location: MM17 I-15 near Harrisburg

Jurisdiction: State of Utah, Private, BLM

Fire Size: Mapped at 1631 acres

Cause: Human (Blown Tire)

Fire Behavior: running and spotting

Closures:  none

Structures: none

Percent Contained: 50%

Fuels: dry grass and brush

Fire Crews/Resources: 107 personnel,1 Type 1 Crew, 2 Type 2 Crews, 2 Type 3 Engines, 4 Type 4 Engines, 3 Type 6 Engines, and 2 Water Tenders Engines

Evacuations: West side of Leeds (Angel heights sub-division) and Harrisburg evacuations have been lifted

Injuries: One firefighter was sent to the hospital 7/19/20 with smoke inhalation, but has since been released
