The Sandy fire was reported at 3:34 p.m. July 24, 2020 approximately 3 miles west of exit 30 off Interstate 15. It is burning near the Dry Sandy Wash in brush and pinion juniper. Fire activity is creeping and smoldering with some isolated trees torching on the interior of the fire perimeter in the heavier fuels. Fire activity will increase in the afternoon as the relative humidity drops, but it is not expected to make significant movement.

The fast-moving Cottonwood Trail fire started near mile marker 17 of I-15. Harrisburg Area, Angel Heights sub-division (west side of Leeds) have been allowed to return home after being evacuated. Aggressive suppression efforts from both aerial and ground resources protected the surrounding communities near the fire area. Fire managers are maintaining the control line with crews and aerial resources to keep the fire within the burned footprint.
