Saddle Fire – May 15, 2020

Start Date: Tuesday May 12thSize: 683 acres
Cause: Human-causedPercent Contained: 80%

Firefighters made excellent progress on the Saddle Fire Friday, increasing containment to 80 percent. More accurate mapping shows the fire at 683 acres.

The Utah Division of Forestry, Fire, and State Lands has cited one individual for flying a drone over the fire.  Unauthorized drone overflights pose serious risks to firefighter and pubic safety and the effectiveness of wildland firefighting operations.

All mandatory evacuations have been lifted  and residents are allowed to return home. The Dutch Hollow Trail System along with The Phosphate and The Face trails remain closed until further notice.

Today, crews on the ground held and improved fire lines, and patrolled for sources of heat along the fire perimeter.  They also began to repair areas impacted by fire lines, and create water bars to control runoff.  Fire managers are feeling optimistic about the progress that has been made on the past several shifts.

Fire managers transitioned down to a Type 4 incident management organization Friday morning. Air assets have been released from the incident.

The public is asked not to offer donations to firefighters; while the thought is much appreciated, unfortunately, they cannot be accepted given current health concerns.
