September 15th Update |
Community Meeting TONIGHT at the Salem Hills High School at 5PM
Great Basin Team 1, a Type 1 Incident Management Team, assumed command of the both the Pole Creek and Bald Mountain fire’s yesterday morning at 6 AM. A Rocky Mountain Type 1 team was also ordered to manage the Bald Mountain Fire and will shadow today and assume command of the fire tomorrow at 6 AM. The fire continued to be very active yesterday, making wind-driven runs to the north and northeast. Multiple ground and air resources worked yesterday to establish containment lines and actively conducted structure assessment and protection operations. Many community member have graciously donated items to the firefighters at the Spanish Forks Fairgrounds. We thank you for your generosity, but our system is designed to supply all of their needs. Today: Crews will continue full suppression efforts, with firefighter and public safety paramount. Predicted high winds could make suppression efforts challenging today. Additional resources have been ordered, including handcrews, engines, dozers and air resources. Dozerline continues to be constructed in key areas to keep the fire from impacting communities. A priority area for resources is State Hwy 6 and keeping the fire south of the highway. Firefighters will be on alert for safety because of Red Flag Warnings, which have been issued for the weekend for high winds and low relative humidity. Air Quality Information: https://www.airnow.gov/?reportingArea=Provo&stateCode=UT Area Closures: The Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest implemented an Area Closure for the Pole Creek and Bald Mountain Fire areas, including all roads and trails and the fire area, until rescinded by the Forest Supervisor.
